Clinical Research Coordinator

The Center for Suicide Research and Prevention at MGB/Harvard is seeking applications for 1-2 full-time Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) to coordinate and administer NIMH-funded projects (led by PIs Drs. Jordan Smoller, Kate Bentley, and Rebecca Fortgang) aimed at building and testing innovative new interventions to prevent suicidal behavior. The target population is adults leaving inpatient hospitalization or emergency department visit for suicide risk. This position is particularly well-suited for anyone interested in pursuing graduate study in the fields of psychology, public health, or medicine.

Experience working with clinically severe/suicidal patients and strong interpersonal skills are strongly preferred. Writing, computer skills (e.g., proficiency with ecological momentary assessment and/or statistical software), and supervisory experience are highly desirable.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree Science required
  • Some relevant research project work 0-1 year preferred

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collects & organizes patient data 
  • Maintains records and databases 
  • Uses software programs to generate graphs and reports 
  • Assists with recruiting patients for clinical trials 
  • Obtains patient study data from medical records, physicians, etc. 
  • Conducts library searches
  • Administers and scores questionnaires 
  • Provides basic explanation of study and in some cases obtains informed consent from subjects 
  • Performs study procedures, which may include phlebotomy. 
  • Writes consent forms 
  • Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria 
  • Performs administrative support duties as required

Student Internship

The Center for Suicide Research and Prevention (CSRP) at Mass General Brigham and Harvard seeks student interns interested in pursuing clinical research, starting Summer 2025. The CSRP is a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded practice-based center aiming to advance and implement research that prevents suicide, in addition to delivering innovative tools on suicide prevention to health systems. CSRP projects include the development of a machine learning algorithm to assist in clinical decision making, enhanced community outreach to support suicide attempt survivors following emergency room discharge, risk assessment for minority youth, and a micro-randomized trial assessing just-in-time interventions for those at risk.  

Working closely with the CSRP Administrative Core Staff, the Intern will participate in day-to-day Center operations and gain invaluable research and research administration experience (including, but not limited to: aiding in project management, community outreach, management of IRB documents). This role provides an immersive experience in the clinical research process and supports development and learning opportunities. No prior research experience is required for this role. Internships are hybrid (in-person & virtual).

This internship provides a stipend totaling $3,000 for the summer role.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Neuroscience, Public Health) 
  • Interested in questions related to suicide prevention and mental health 
  • A desire to learn in a fast-paced hospital research setting  
  • Weekday availability of at least 10 hours per week – more availability is welcome.
    • This role is hybrid. Please ensure you are able to come into the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus regularly. 
  • U.S. citizens and noncitizens with a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) are eligible to receive a stipend.
